The three steps
of the CO₂ performance ladder
Step 1
The focus is on the emissions of the organization itself (scope 1 and scope 2) and setting short-term objectives (up to 3 years).
Step 2
The focus is extended to the value chain (scope 3) of the organization. Objectives are expected on the organization's main activities and on the medium term (5 to 10 years).
Step 3
It is expected to focus on the long-term goal (until 2050) of zero emissions, both for its own activities (scope 1 and 2) and for the chain (scope 3).
The ladder has three certification levels, with companies gradually taking more responsibility for their CO₂ policy.
